Genealogy is rarely a straight line.
Sometimes a name changes between one record and the next. A family appears in a place where we never expected to find them. Two branches that seem to have nothing in common suddenly intersect. A story passed through generations points in one direction while the surviving documents point somewhere else.
And sometimes, the evidence simply stops.
That is where Twisted Roots begins.
This is a place for the mysteries hidden within the family tree—the contradictions, migrations, unlikely marriages, disputed origins, missing generations, and tantalizing fragments that refuse to fit neatly into place.
Some investigations begin with a handwritten chart created generations ago. Others begin with a name in a parish register, a land deed, a ship’s manifest, a family story, a historical event, or a piece of DNA that raises an entirely new question.
We follow the evidence wherever it leads.
Along the way, documented history may sit beside family tradition. A plausible theory may compete with another equally plausible explanation. New evidence may strengthen something we once suspected—or force us to reconsider it entirely.
The distinction matters.
What is documented will be treated as documented.
What is probable will remain probable.
And what is still a mystery will be allowed to remain a mystery.
Because uncertainty is not the failure of family research.
Sometimes it is the most interesting part.
Within Twisted Roots, we will follow individual investigations across centuries and borders: examining the historical circumstances surrounding our ancestors, the worlds in which they lived, and the forces that may have shaped the choices they made.
Some trails will eventually lead to answers.
Others may only take us a little farther into the weeds.
Either way, we keep digging.
Because somewhere among the records, contradictions, migrations, marriages, legends, and unexpected discoveries are the pieces of a much larger story.
These are the roots that refuse to grow in a straight line.
